When to get new earring holes?

I got my ears pierced back in May and after 6 to 8 weeks I was told I could take them out. So after 6 weeks, I took them out. I put a new earring in my right ear but wasn't able to put a new one in my left. The place where I got my ears pierced said that it takes longer to form a hole for some people. They also said that I would have to wait until the holes close before I make new holes. Is this true? Or can I go somewhere and just have them repierce the hole? (can I have someone just use a needle or earring to remake the hole)
